A couple of McKinsey consultants traveled the world and noticed different initiatives used to foster startups. They started to do research about; what are the key factors to encouraging successful startups? What they found was that entrepreneurs need help with feedback to develop the idea, help with time management to get things done in time. These findings initiated the start of Venture Cup.
Venture Cup, the competition for business ideas, was founded in Gothenburg by McKinsey Co. together with Chalmers, University of Gothenburg and Innovations- bron with the purpose to stimulate economic growth in Sweden.
Venture Cup East and Venture Cup Norway was founded.
Venture Cup Öresund was founded.
Venture Cup North was established, and the competition is now active in four regions, covering all areas of Sweden.
The Öresund region splits up into Venture Cup Denmark and Venture Cup South.
This year Venture Cup started a credit-bearing university course along with GU, Chalmers, and Sahlgrenska called ”Affärsplanering för Tillväxtföretag.” And until now 1000 students have attended the course.
Venture Cup decided to organize their first Swedish final, and the first final took place in Gothenburg, where it all started in 1998. The first winner out was Protaurius.
Venture Cup celebrates it’s ten year anniversary.
Since the start, over 10.000 business ideas had gone through the competition process.
Venture Cup launched a new version of the competition, and you now compete in the tracks; idea, pitch, and business plan. During the same time a podcast, packed with useful content for entrepreneurs.
After helping 15.000 business ideas and 27.000 entrepreneurs, Venture Cup launched a new and updated version of the competition based on an extensive research among former contestants, entrepreneurs, researchers, and partners. From now on Venture Cup offers two different competitions; Idea during the fall and Startup during the spring.
The Venture Cup Sweden Final celebrates it’s 10 year anniversary and will be arranged in Lund!
