The story of Venture Cup

We are in the late ’90s. A number of Swedish McKinsey consultants are on the move on various assignments in the world and note that a number of interesting initiatives to promote startup companies start to emerge around the world. They think that Sweden should start doing something too and start a discussion. “How can we find new ways for people to turn their business ideas into sustainable companies”. With this in mind, they return to Sweden and begin to investigate what really is the key to successful business launches. They soon understand that an important part of the process is the entrepreneurs get feedback on their business idea and help to prioritize their time. That’s where the idea of Venture Cup is born.

 

In 1998, Venture Cup is launched – a business plan competition aimed to promote Swedish growth. Since then, the concept has grown to include a successful process where participants can help develop their business ideas to tomorrow’s businesses. Experienced industry experts are committed to providing feedback and development tips on all submitted ideas. In addition, the organization offers inspiration, education, supervision and ability to create a solid network.
